LAGO D’ORTA 1
9
people
5 bedrooms
4 bathrooms
Charming
and elegant villa located in the village of Crabbia, 3 km away
from Orta (the Capital of Lake Orta). Independent house, with
private dock, rowing boat, beautiful garden. This villa and the
surrounding area will fascinate whoever loves nature, beauty,
and peaceful atmosphere. You access the house by its beautiful
and large garden (about 2 ha) where are all kind of flowers and
trees. A century-old wisteria welcomes you in the middle of the
courtyard.
Accommodation:
The villa sleeps 9 in summer time and 6 from October to April.
At
the ground floor there is a double bedroom with bathroom (tub),
a storage room where is the washing machine and an additional
fridge. There are also three more storage rooms (that will be
kept closed); on the left of the courtyard there is the platform
for the wheelchair elevator.
The
pretty stairs with pink painted walls leads you the first floor
surrounded on two sides by a balcony. On this floor you have a
spacious elegant living room (TV) with fireplace and large French
windows. A rather small but well equipped kitchen (dishwasher),
a breakfast room with table for 6, a large bathroom (tub) with
an ancient mirror (beautifully decorated with a wooden frame)
a study room with collection of art and botanical books, a double
bedroom with bathroom (tub) with separate entrance from the balcony.
On
the other side of the balcony there is the large and beautiful
patio, which in effect becomes the summer living room, with sofas,
armchairs, dining table seating 10 people.
On
the second floor: the spacious master bedroom with fireplace and
cosy windows framing the view of the lake, large bathroom with
both tub and separate shower (and beautiful ancient crystal mirror).
Some steps up is a passage room with bed of 120 cm, a baby bedroom
with crib, and large mansard bedroom with two beds that can't
be fitted as a double bed.
Outside:
Large garden with a path that has been expressly made for wheelchairs
passage; an other path (not wheelchairs accessible) leads to the
private dock and bathing area.
Please
note:
- The ground floor and the first floor bedrooms have each an independent
access from outside there is also an inside stair connecting them.
While there is no inside connection from these two bedrooms to
the rest of the house: to reach the living room and the kitchen
from these two bedrooms guests you have to pass through the balcony.
- The villa is above and overlooking the lake, it is not on the
lakeshore. A stepped path from the villa leads down to the lakeshore
road (about 150 m unsuitable to people with walking difficulties).
You then have to cross the road to reach the villa’s own
little private dock where, a rowing boat (no engine) is available.
Children must be watched and helped across the road.
- The villa was partially adapted for use by the handicapped by
its late owner who, when he became infirm, wanted to remain. There
is an elevator (for wheelchairs only) connecting the ground floor
to the patio and the main level of the house. Garden paths (other
than the one down to the lake) have no steps. But it doesn’t
mean full wheelchair accessibility. All the bathrooms (other than
the one at the upper floor) have tubs and no one is provided with
grab-bars.
Location:
Thanks to the quiet beauty of the landscape, its fascinating history
and its wealth of artistic treasures, principally Romanesque and
Baroque architecture, Lake Orta has long been the destination
of poets, artists and writers. Lake Orta lies at the west of lake
Maggiore in the northern Italy. Far from the chaos and the unpleasant
“stress of life”, this restful area with its blue
water and clean air offers the opportunity to rediscover nature.
Mimosas, Palms and Olive trees grow around the lake as well as
Azaleas, Camellias and Rhododendron a bit higher up are chestnut
forests, at 500 /600 m oaks and birch trees.
There are many possibilities to follow footpaths that lead from
the towns and villages through the forests up the hills and mountains.
The Mottarone (height 1385 m.), which divides Lake Maggiore from
Lake Orta, is equipped with lifts for winter sports. On clear
days it offers a charming view of seven lakes, Monte Rosa and
the chain of the Alps.
From the railroad station of the village you can reach Milano
in about 1h.40 min / 2h and Torino (about 2 h).
