Apartment. Sleeps 4
Shared swimming pool 10m x 5m
Situated in a wonderful setting, in the foothills of the Montagne
de Lure, this 18th century mill farmhouse has recently been completely
renovated. The property we let is divided into two apartments
which may be let separately or as a whole. This apartment is on
the first floor of the building. The French owners also have an
adjoining house which they sometimes occupy. The interior is charming
and full use has been made of beautiful local materials creating
a colourful and cheerful atmosphere. There are stone walls, exposed
beamed ceilings and traditional Provençal furniture. Outside
there is a private terrace with garden furniture. The two apartments
also share a covered terrace for outdoor dining in the courtyard.
There is also a ping-pong table, boules, swings, a sand pit and
a barbecue. The newly installed swimming pool is shared with the
other tenants and with the French owners. This is the heart of
rural Provence where Provençal is still spoken and rural
life has hardly changed over the centuries. There are fantastic
views of the surrounding hills and open countryside.
Accommodation
This is on the first floor. There is a living room and kitchen
combined. This room is prettily furnished with a dining area,
comfortable seating and satellite televison. Please note that
the left hand part of the ceiling is very low in this room, and
the lowest beam is only 140cm, see photo. The kitchen has a 4-ring
hob, oven, dishwasher and electric coffee maker. (There is a communal
washing machine in the cellar.) There are two bedrooms, one with
a double bed, 140cm, and the other with a narrow double bed, 120cm,
and a wide single bed, 1m. There is a shower and separate WC.
A cot is available upon request. There is central heating.
Situation
The Montagne de Lure is situated to the south west of Sisteron,
about 25km north west of Forcalquier. The property is situated
just outside the hamlet of La Rochegiron, and 4km from the beautiful
fortified village of Banon which has good local shops, a street
market on Tuesday mornings and a couple of good restaurants. Banon
is famous for its goats' cheese. Forcalquier, the nearest town,
has an extensive street market on Mondays, a supermarket and a
good choice of restaurants and small shops. This is an 'undiscovered'
part of Provence and there are many old villages to explore. In
particular Simaine-la-Rotunde, a "village de caractère",
which is a beautiful spiralling medieval village with winding
streets and a covered market place. Another village nearby is
Le Contadour where Jean Giono, the French author and pacifist,
set up a summer commune in the 1930s to celebrate peace, ecology
and the return to nature.
